Wet Paint!!

It has been one heck of a week for Wil and I. Wil is coaching the North football team in a huge post season game this week. I, well I just am trying to keep my sanity while everything is going on. I also found out that fragile stickers on shipping packages don't really mean a darn thing to the people that load and deliver the packages. At least not when you have 1800 lbs of stuff in two crates.

We have been over at the facility a lot this week unloading shipments, moving around equipment and just admiring the awesomeness of the facility. I think that you lose fat by just walking in the door, and I swear my 40 yd dash time dropped by a half second after visiting. Really, I swear ;)

In all seriousness, we really will have a top of the line, super duper awesome facility. That is right I said super and duper to describe Force Fitness! That is not something that happens everyday.

Here is a video showing the progress. It has come a long way since the update a few weeks ago. We don't show you in teh video, but we even have a few showers in place in the locker rooms!!!

See for yourself:

Richard Simmons, Tony Little and Pumpkin Seeds.

This past weekend a lot of big things happened for Force Fitness and Performance. We were highlighted on the front page of the Herald Times for the Pumpkin Bootcamp, we had a live online Q&A, we had a video posted on the web page demonstrating the workout, we held the first annual Pumpkin Bootcamp (we raised $100 for Pets Alive), and we met with our mentor Pat Rigsby on Saturday to have a little fun and go over a little business.

We were also highlighted in his newsletter that is sent to thousands of fitness pros around the world. It was a great honor for Wil and I to see our names in such a prominent publication.

Needless to say we are a little excited about what is going to happen in the next few weeks for Force Fitness!

Instead of rambling on about what we have done, I have a few tips for what you can do with your pumpkins either after you workout with them or after you carve them.

The first thing that you can do is take all the pumpkin seeds and roast them in the oven. Pumpkin seeds roasted with a little sea salt are delicious. They are also very health providing you with a good amount of protein, healthy fats, and fiber. I have been snacking on them for the last few days and really enjoy having a something a little different.

I would give you the recipe I used, but I didn't do any of the cooking...Luckily I have someone to do that for me as I am attached to the computer working. Alex might have to chime in to let you know what she did to make such great pumpkin seeds.

Well, on second thought, I don't want her invading the blog and posting Martha Stewart recipes on the blog all the time, so I took the liberty to look up a link for you- Pumpkin Seed Recipe

I also like to use canned pumpkin to make some protein pumpkin bread. I take two cans of pumpkin, two scoops of vanilla protein powder, two omega-3 eggs, and stir it all together. I also added a little Cinnamon and nutmeg to give it some spice. I baked it in a Pyrex dish for 50 minutes at 400 degrees. It is a little mushy, but tastes really good. It should fluff up just a bit and have a corn bread like consistency.

Both of these easy recipes will help you to keep the pounds off during Halloween as you are handing out all that candy.

Before you leave, you just have to check out the Pumpkin Bootcamp and see Richard and Tony in action.

Eat your heart out Rich and Tony.

Pumpkins, fitness and fun for all...

I know it is a cheesy title but seriously we had a great time this morning at the Freaky Fat Loss Pumpkin boot camp. It was really exciting for Ryan and I to do something out at the new facility and also benefit a great charity. I want to thank all of the people that showed up to make this morning's bootcamp such a tremendous success.

About 25 people braved the 35 degree weather to show up at 8 am on a Saturday morning to get a good workout and benefit Pets Alive. (Click on that link to donate just a little)

I am hopeful that everyone there thought that it was a great workout with a fun twist. We even had a couple of real fitness professionals show up.

Richard Simmons and Tony Little made the Halloween workout just a little bit better in the cold weather this morning.

Freaky Fat Loss Pumpkin Bootcamp

This has been a crazy week for us at Force Fitness, we are pushing to get the building done as quick as possible, receiving equipment (not sure how much more we can fit in the building!), and keeping you filled in on our progress and giving you as many helpful tips as we can possibly come up with.

Well, this week will end with one last bit of craziness! We are holding a FREE Freaky Fat Loss Pumpkin Bootcamp workout. We will be accepting some money, but for a great cause. All donations will go to the Pets Alive Spay Neuter Clinic.

This bootcamp workout will be done entirely with pumpkins and your bodyweight. I guarantee that you will have a ton of fun and burn a ton of fat with this fast paced and exhilarating workout. You will also have the chance to enter to win a few prizes and check out the Force Fitness Facility!

Here is what you will need to know for the event:
1) Bring a pumpkin- you will need to bring your own pumpkin that fits your fitness level. Try to pick one that you can lift overhead 15 times. Don't bring one of those little dinky pumpkins!
2) Don't come alone- Bring as many friends and family as you would like. You can be young, old, in great shape, or a beginner to exercise and still get something out of this workout. We are even encouraging you to bring your kids for a workout! That is if you can get them out of bed at 8am.
3) Dress for the weather- We will be doing the workout rain or shine, so be prepared. It might be cold- suck it up and dress warm! Also if you would like wear a costume, we might be giving away a prize for best costume!
4)Bring some water- You will want to stay hydrated.
5) You might want to bring a mat or towel to place on the ground if we lie down.

Here are the details of the event:
What: Freaky Fat Loss Bootcamp
Where: Force Fitness and Performance
3205 W Fullerton Pike
Bloomington, IN 47401
When: Saturday, Oct. 25th at 8 am (The entire event will last about 1 hour)

We hope to see you all there!

Speed...but not with Keanu Reeves

Like a resounding chorus, every athlete I have ever worked with has one question that always seems to be on their mind: How do I get faster? The "it" phrase in almost all sports is "speed kills". So how do you develop that killer speed? Here are a couple philosophies that will not lead you astray!

1) Get stronger!
That is right, contrary to the old myth that muscle will only make you tighter and in turn slower, more muscle means one thing: you get faster! Speed is all about how much power your body can generate. The greater your body's ability to create power the easier it is to propel your body in motion.

To build the explosive power that you need, get on a program that emphasizes olympic lifting or exercises that involves a triple extension of the ankles, knees, and hips such as jump squats. Make sure that your program includes plyometric exercises to improve your ability to react to the ground.

2)Think about the Core
Your abs and hips are essential to maintaining the proper form and keeping your body position aligned when running your fastest. Extremely strong demands are placed on your body while sprinting, so these muscles need to be extremely strong as well. I suppose this just goes back to getting stronger, now doesn't it?

3) WARM UP!!!
Most athletes try to warm-up by doing the same thing, run a couple laps and then stand around and stretch. When in athletics do you ever stand around and do something statically for an 8 count? That's right, never. So why would you get "warmed-up" in a similar fashion. A proper warm-up should leave you slightly out of breath and maybe a little sweaty. A warm-up should happen in all the planes of movement that you may encounter in your workout for the day. And keep the warm-up varied, so that each and everyday you are interested. When you are interested your form will never be lacking!

That is right, speed does kill and with Force Fitness and Performance we will help you develop that killer speed.

Rapid Fat Loss Tips For You!

Wil and I traveled to Chicago this weekend to meet up with about 55 other fitness professionals to talk shop. After meeting several of the other fitness pros we struck up a conversation with Registered Dietitian Jayson Hunter. We talked about everything from young athletes nutritional needs to fat loss and low carb diets.

We got Jayson to do a quick interview and give his top 3 rapid fat loss tips.

Coming up after the break...

Wil and I have been insanely busy getting things situated with Force Fitness and also fullfilling our other obligations. I know the blog has been a little slow this week and we apologize for that, but we promise to get right back on track and give you qaulity information you can use.

This weekend Wil and I are on the road again! We are headed up to Chicago for a smeinar and visiting a facility or two on the way. We are both really excited about this opportunity and we will try to have a little fun while we are out.

I am also realizing just how important rest and recovery are to getting great workouts and being productive. This week has been full of long days and short nights, and it is finally catching up with me today. I need to do a better job of getting in my sleep.

We will give you a full update on the weekend and get you plenty of great tips after the weekend.

Also be watching for an announcement for a special event to get a sneak peak at Force Fitness and get a great FREE workout at the same time. All I will say is keep next Saturday morning open and tell your friends to do the same.

Facility Update!

Wil takes you through the progress of the facility in the video below.

Enjoy!

After a little bit of a delay the video is up and working!!!

Coaches need coaches too....

Like Ryan mentioned in his previous post, we had the pleasure of meeting with some amazing minds in the fitness industry this past weekend. We talked for hours on end about what we can do to create a successful business, and how to reach the most people. We talked about training programs that will create the best results, and well, we talked some football too. We were getting advice from some of the most successful trainers, and entrepreneurs in the entire fitness industry! We were learning from the best.

We were being coached.

Yeah, the coaches need coaches too.

Throughout this entire process of getting Force Fitness and Performance off the ground, we have had the been fortunate enough to get advice from some really great minds. From day 1 we had family members and friends to coach us through writing the business plan, meeting with the bank, securing a property, etc. In fact we have had coaches at every turn. All with useful words of technical advice, but also readily available with the more important aspect of coaching, helpful words of encouragement. Telling us that the speed bumps along the way were just that, small and only temporary. When walls were put up we were told that they were only there to see how fast we could break them down. To everyone of you that has helped us along the way, Thank you.

We love being coaches, and we want to be your coach. We want just what all of the amazing people along the way wanted for us. We want to see you succeed in reaching your goals.

Gotta Relax and Enjoy yourself

I just wanted to take a minute to let you know what we were up to this weekend. Wil and I made sure to mix a little business and pleasure this weekend. You have to have a little bit of balance in your life.

We drove to Louisville and met with some other great fitness pros and talked shop. We also watched a lot of football and told a bunch of great stories. We made some friends and had a lot of fun. I mean, seriously, a business meeting at a Buffalo Wild Wings on a college football Saturday? It doesn't get much better than that.

Hope your weekend was as great as ours!

I feel your pain...

Wil and I have both been in your shoes. We have felt the aches and pains because our bodies weren't functioning correctly. It hurts to get out of bed in the morning, it hurts when you get up from your chair after a few long hours at your desk in the office, that long car ride has your knees and back screaming for some anti-inflammatories, and the list can go on and on.

It all comes down to getting your body to work as a unit and in the correct manner. I get a little nauseous when talking about functional training. Most people, because of a fad training trend, think of standing on one leg doing a bicep curl on a bosu ball. I think of functional training a bit differently.

Functional training is getting your body to perform to the best of it's ability doing everyday activities. At Force Fitness we will do just that. We will give you the best possible program for you to be able to do the things that you would like to do without pain and discomfort.

Take it from a guy that has had four different surgeries, it can be done. It is not always a quick process and it takes a little patience, but you can be pain free and fit. We will find the best way possible to help you live the best possible life that you can live.

Ryan

Birthdays!

I also wanted to take a second to wish Karla and Melissa a Happy Birthday this week.

Two of the very best clients and friends a trainer/coach could ask for.

Most Valuable Commodity

If you had to ask a lot of people what they would want more of what do you think that would be? If you really had to think about it, what would you want more of?

I can tell you for me and a lot of you it would be time. I don't feel like I ever have enough time in the day to get done what I need to get done. I don't even have a family to take care of like most people or a lot of other obligations that are priorities in your life.

A lot of people say they don't have enough time to workout or exercise and I just don't buy it. The biggest misconception in the fitness world is that you have to spend 2+ hours in the gym or running to get great results. I can get more done in 20-40 minutes than most people can get done in 90 minutes.

I have been very pressed for time recently and so my workouts have been very fast paced. I do a quick 10 minute warm up and movement prep to get ready for the workout, then go into about 20-25 minutes of intense work. I make sure to get in 3 days a week of resistance training using these parameters and try to get in 2-3 other interval days that are more cardio based doing timed interval sets.

For instance last night Wil and I got a great workout in using work sets of 40seconds of work and 20 seconds of rest. We picked four exercises and paired them up. I started with alternating mountain climbers and squat to row with a band using the 40 on 20 off intervals for 10 minutes. Wil paired jump rope with medicine ball russian twists for the same intervals and time. At the end of the 10 minutes we switched.

I can tell you we were both sweating and panting pretty good at the end of this 20 minute session. I can also tell you that if I decided that I needed to ride the bike for 45-60 minutes to workout I would not have done it.

The best part about these workouts is that they create an afterburn effect and keep you burning fat and using up calories for up to 48 hours post workout. Just imagine how fast my metabolism is running after I get 4 of these workouts in 4-5 days.

Just a little tip of how to get a lot out of your training in the least amount of time.

Here is my workout from today (it is very poorly shot, but you get the jist by my panting and dripping). Check it out.

Your Team for Success...

Gladys Knight had the Pips, Diana Ross had the Supremes, Larry Bird had Kevin McHale and Robert Parrish. You?? You have Ryan and I at Force Fitness and Performance. What exactly am I talking about? I am talking about surrounding yourself with people that can help you to succeed.

Ryan and I were talking about just that point earlier in the week. We were discussing the relationships we want to develop and nurture so that we can be successful. We want to surround ourselves with the people so that we can be the best coaches and fitness professionals to all of our clients.

So this week Ryan and I made some phone calls, and we visited some respected professionals in the area, and we had some meetings, all so that we can have at your disposal the network to help you get to your goals. We went out this past week and spoke with people that can get you to your goals, people that can help us get to our goals. This coming week? Well it will be more of the same, we will be speaking with more people that will help you to get the best experience and achieve the best results . all courtesy of Force Fitness and Performance.

My question to you is: are you surrounding yourself with a team of individuals that help you be successful?

I am freaking out!! AHHHHHHHHH!

Okay, so maybe I am not freaking out just yet. Give me a week or two and I might be.

We went over to unload another shipment of equipment today (it was about 12 bars to be exact, and they are AWESOME!) and it seemed that the job site was a little behind schedule.

Anyone that truly knows me probably can guess my reaction. I was very patient and understanding of all the things that can go wrong and was simply happy to be in the building. YEAH RIGHT! I was pacing around the place like a 5 year old wanting to play with my new toys (ie gym equipment). I am the most impatient person in the world! I hate waiting.

Things I like: Our new equipment, girls, fast fat loss plans, and sports
Things I hate: Waiting...

So I want to take a minute to thank you all for waiting on us to get our facility in order, for being patient with all my rants about getting set up, and for being patient with the all the unknowns that are coming with this transition.

Thank you so much for being a part of Force Fitness and being an important part in our lives. Everyone last one of my clients has a special place in my heart and you are a big part of my life. When someone asks if I am married I simply reply that I have about 30 spouses that all require a lot of my attention. And I love every minute of it.

I would not trade doing what I love with you for anything in the world.

Thank you again. Without you none of this would be possible.

A Coach or a Trainer?

I had a really cool experience today that got me really thinking about something that Ryan and I have talked about all along.

One of my athletes, a kid with tremendous talent, has been hounding me about when we will be opening Force Fitness and Performance. He knows that with the right training and a focused and concerted effort by himself and the Force team he could be great at what he does. He also knows that there are probably 22 hours in a day when he will not be training and to him he knows these are the hours that really "shape" a person.

He asked me if he could stick around after the workouts to see others train, to watch Ryan and I pursue with the greatest of passion our dream. He thinks that it will keep him out of trouble.

Now that is the number 1 reason I love being a coach. You can bet that I love seeing kids succeed in their selected endeavors, whatever they maybe, but honestly I just want kids to succeed. I want them to be well rounded people and fitness is one aspect of that. All along Ryan and I have spoken about this, about the value of being a "coach" and not a "trainer". A trainer counts reps, and counts dollars. A coach teaches, not just about the 2 hours you may spend with us every other day, but about how to make the right choices in the other 22 hours each day. In some cases those lessons may be about what to eat and how much rest to get, in other cases those lessons are more important.

Have a great day!
