The Key to Success...

Wil and I were eating lunch yesterday waiting to meet with someone about creating our sign for the building and our anxiously awaiting the call from the Fed-Ex delivery driver about our equipment when the topic of nutrition and nutrition/dieting success came up. We talked for a long time about what makes a person successful at meeting their goals and people's expectations for their bodies.

Here are a few conclusions that we came up with:
1) Making a few changes at once and gradually building into a complete lifestyle change lends itself to long term success more so than drastic dieting and crazy workout plans. This holds especially true for the beginner.

2) Consistency one of, if not the most, important factors for success. This seems to hold true for anything you do. If you can consistently eat right and pick good food choices 90% of the time you will be well on your way to meeting your goals. If you exercise within the same parameters you will be making progress as well.

3) KISS- Keep It Simple Stupid- Nutrition and eating right is very simple. A lot of people know what is healthy and what is crap. It is just hard work to pick the right things most of the time. Don't' fret the details (i.e. exactly how many calories are in each leaf of spinach, or what supplements will help me do XYZ) until you have mastered the basics (i.e. eating 5-6 meals a day, protein at every meal, getting plenty of rest, etc).

4) Take it one step at a time. It is okay to have a big goal set for yourself. In fact, I love it when people present me with a challenge of helping them lose 50+lbs of fat. At the same time, you need to set little stepping stone goals for yourself to get you from point A to Point B. I recently had someone get upset because they lost 4lbs in a month. They would have liked to lost more weight, and I agree with them. The reality was that they had lost a considerable amount of weight in the previous 4-5 months and things were starting to naturally slow down. However, if you look at it like this it changes everything. If you lost 4 lbs a month, for 12 straight months you will have lost 48 lbs after 1 year.

So remember, no matter what your goal, if you keep these tips in mind you will well on your way to success.

Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, a whole semi load of equipment was delivered. We were like kids on Christmas morning as we unloaded it.

We will also be taking applications for help in moving the equipment and turf into place when the time comes. I know you will all be jumping at that chance!

Have a great day,
Ryan
